Winter Solstice Reflections

This dark time of year is a call to travel inward, to find the sacred light within ourselves.

In the northern hemisphere, the sun is at it’s lowest point. The shadows are long, the air is cold, the nights are long, the earth is still. Nature gives us the perfect conditions to slow down enough to notice the magic and the synchronicities that are happening all around us.

In the spirit of noticing and celebrating this, I wanted to share a little story:

The single lane bridge at the end of our road was closed for 6 months while they rebuilt it. It forced us on a very adventurous detour up through the woods and hills on a winding dirt road. Everyone who came here for classes this year was well aware of this detour! So, naturally, when the final inspection happened and they took the barricade down just the day before the big snow two weeks ago, we were all thrilled. The day after the snow day, I woke up from a restless and anxious sleep with a headache and was in a weird mood (thanks perimenopause) I was not feeling particularly connected to the magic of life. Driving Sophia to school, we hooted and hollered as we drove over the bridge for the first time and that helped my mood a little. When I got home, I did what I usually do to start my work day, I lit a candle and drew a card from my “Archetypes” deck, created by Kim Krans. There are 78 cards; they are all potent. Guess what card I drew that day? The Bridge. The bridge is loaded with meaning, about the connections between the everyday world and the sacred. It’s also about the connections we lovingly build with others, as well as studying the connections between the seemingly un-connected parts of our lives. It’s also about acceptance and saying yes.

The bridge showed me a vision for myself in 2026: more time spent in community, more trust in the flow and pace of my work unfolding, and more connection to the magic all around me. When I focus on the magic, it grows, and I become more joyful.

Whatever your wishes for your own life in the new year, may they be illuminated by the light within you, and grounded in the faith that everything is already perfect, just as it is.
