Mosaics Inspired by Nature

In this six week class, be inspired by the original artist- Mother Nature! You will compose a landscape, either from a photo or your imagination. The focus will be on the way you arrange tesserae to depict the various textures, elements and patterns; For example: the bark of a tree, the wing of a monarch, the ripples in water, the cloud formations at sunset, the veins in a leaf, the feathers of an owl, the tufts of grasses and wildflowers in the meadow (just to name a few!). Part of the fun is in choosing the materials that best depict the nature element you are creating- glass, stone, ceramic tile, patterned china, found objects, etc. The work of mosaics is to arrange the pieces in a way that creates the andamento (the flow) that brings your work to life. Finished works will be roughly 11″ x 14″.
Great for both beginners and those who want to build their skills.
New this year: Your registration includes a one-on-one mentorship session with me, prior to the first class. We can use this time to help clarify and identify your goals for learning, plan your project, or discuss anything that comes up in the moment, including personal themes that may or may not seem to relate directly to your mosaic, but give your work it’s own unique flavor. It makes our time in class together that much more dynamic. These sessions are one hour and done via zoom or phone.
