Miniature Series of Mosaics

By Published On: July 25, 2024

There are so many benefits to working in a series. It’s a great way to practice and develop your skills by repeating the process multiple times, learning as you go and making improvements each time. You also have the opportunity to explore multiple qualities of a single subject, or explore a developing idea. You can even create works that form a collection, such as portraits of different family members, flowers in your garden, explorations of colors, seasons, elements, etc. Another option is to turn your mosaics into a beautiful set of coasters. In this class, we will be working small, 4” x 4” mosaics, which allows for projects to be completed more quickly, learn from one and move on to the next. Most people make 4- 6 mosaics in this 4 week series.

This workshop meets on the following Wednesdays:

September 18, 25, October 2, 9

Time: 12 – 3 pm.

Components of this Workshop:

  • You’ll learn how to use hand tools for cutting glass safely.
  • You’ll take the pressure off getting started on your first piece, knowing that it’s a practice and will be repeated several times.

  • You’ll learn from each mosaic you create, which will make your next piece even better.

  • You’ll learn how to work in the indirect method, a process where pieces are laid on a temporary substrate and can be reworked until it’s complete. Then, the whole mosaic gets adhered to your permanent substrate using thinset mortar.

  • You can create a series to be displayed together on a wall, a set of coasters, or create separate works to give as individual gifts.

  • Cost is $325, including all materials.
